In Person or Online Summer Course Private School & College Application Workshop

If a student is planning to apply to private middle school, high school or college, the personal essay statement is unavoidable. In OmegaTeaching's College Application Essay Workshop, students will learn how to write a compelling personal essay statement and our summer seminar is a great time to get a jump start on writing it!

In Person or Online Summer Course Students' Choice Creative Writing: Of Myths and Monsters

    M-F, weekly 1.5 hour classes 9:30-11 am, every week from June 7 through August 27.

    Note that June 28 week of July 4th, (4 days, prorated fee)

If students choose Of Myths and Monsters Creative Writing class, students will read a myth about a monster, and then through various writing exercises they will explore the archetype of monster that haunts all cultures. Small interactive classes make writing fun, while providing feedback not typically found in a larger group setting. All students get to participate and share their stories without the competitive pressure of grades. Students in this seminar find they enjoy learning to write and speak to the group. Writing about monsters is an added bonus for students of all ages.

In Person or Online Summer Course Students' Choice Creative Writing: Going to the Dogs

If students choose Going to the Dogs Creative Writing, students will improve their empathy by creating a dog character and various canine narratives in both graphic (cartoon) and written form. Empathy is the ability to imagine the emotions and feelings of another being. Interactive, small classes encourage students to participate and share their work. This is a popular summer seminar because students have fun when they can create their own stories and share them with each other.

In Person or Online Summer Course Students' Choice Creative Writing: The Power of Story

    M-F, weekly half day classes 9:30-11 am, every week from June 7 through August 27. Afternoon classes 2:00-3:30 Weeks July 6, 13.

If students choose The Power of Story Creative Writing, class will introduce techniques and structure common to good stories: concrete details, emotional resonance and the 'Hero’s Journey.' Students will analyze and rewrite iconic stories from mythology, the Bible or fairy tales. Small interactive classes make writing fun, while providing feedback not typically found in a larger group setting. All students get to participate and share their stories without the competitive pressure of grades. Students in this seminar find they enjoy learning to write and speak to the group.

OmegaTeaching's Critical Thinking though Literature seminar is specifically designed for high school students, although entering 6th or 7th graders may join at instructor’s discretion. When students read and analyze high quality literature they develop empathy, emotional intelligence and moral reasoning. Students will reap the benefits of this seminar for many to years to come.
